Taste the Difference

Sainsbury's Taste the difference wines are a specially selected range of wines from both the Old and New World. Many are made by family-owned or small co-operative wineries, which Sainsbury's have sought out across the world. Sainsbury's has selected them as being the best examples of their style at excellent prices.

Selecting a wine can be daunting for many people, especially when choosing a wine over £5. This range aims to offer reassurance to our customers that they are choosing wines that will be of top quality and value for money.

Taste the difference Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

The Coonawarra region is a small pocket of land in South Australia where the climate is surprisingly cool and the soils are richly fertile and bright red. The wines from this region are famed for their elegance and fine structure and Sainsbury's version is a shining example.

Made with tender loving care at the Katnook Estate winery, one of Coonawarra's top producers, this wine packs an extraordinary punch of ripe forest fruit flavours with a smooth chocolate finish.

Taste the difference Douro

The Douro, famous for port production, is earning an increasingly high reputation for its table wines and particularly the red wines made from the same grapes used in port.

Sourced from renowned producers Quinta do Crasto, who have won international acclaim for it's wines, this wine is full bodied, rich and dark with intense berry fruit flavours, vanilla and spice. Great with meat casseroles and stews.

Taste the difference Chablis

Chablis comes from the northernmost part of Burgundy in eastern France. It is made from chardonnay grapes grown on the famous limestone and kimmeridgian clay soils that cover the steep slopes overlooking the Serein River. Located in Prehy, the Brocard family's winery has supplied these hand-crafted Chablis wines to Sainsbury's since the late 80's.

This wine won a Bronze IWSC medal (2006). It's a crisp, dry wine but with full, rich, melony fruit and hints of minerality - all very characteristic of great Chablis. Try with lobster, salmon, plain tuna steak and poultry.

Taste the difference Gewurztraminer

This won Regional White "Alsace Dry Aromatic Under £10" Trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2007.

This sunny, dry region of France produces wines of great elegance and concentration and is most famed for it's Germanic influenced white wines. Most producers are small, family-run vineyards who concentrate on high quality wines. This wine is produced especially for Sainsbury's by the Turckheim winery in Alsace.

This wine is wonderfully aromatic. It is an off-dry white wine with delicate floral aromas, but full bodied to taste with an attractive spiciness and intense tropical fruit and lychees on the finish. Perfect to enjoy with spicy asian foods.
